Please note our video ad on the back cover!! I would like to share with you the full story of our “movie making adventure”. I have spent my whole life working with dogs, and over these past - (I hate to say nearly 30 years because some people might start guessing my age!!) many years now I have had the opportunity to work with all kinds of trainers- in a variety of different clubs, etc. The main thing I have noticed is that nearly all trainers take one of two approaches - It seems that the “ladies” prefer to train dogs with the “goody goody” approach - depending mostly on food motivation and the “Macho men” prefer to show the dog who’s the Boss!! They jump in like Rambo, and use all kinds of “tricks” (like biting the dogs ear, “flanking”, shock collars, and other forms of terrorism) to force the dog into submission. If the dog should rebel against such treatment, they promptly loose their tempers and beat the dog into subjection!! Results - The dog will work-- but you’ll notice that the poor creature has his ears down, tail dragging, and he will flinch at the slightest change in pattern, because he’s never sure of when he will be beat up again!! Both of these methods will get the dog to perform the commands. The only problem is that if you take away the “treats” from the food dog - he will usually refuse to work - and when you take the “whips” away from the force trained dog, he will just fall apart!! Folks, There is A BETTER WAY!!! Over the years I have incorporated a lot of the techniques that are used for training horses, into my dogs ---and have seen phenomenal results!! I have shared these methods with many people and have spent hours on the phone trying to explain them to people all over the world but I soon realized that it was impossible to teach someone, without actually SHOWING them what I’m talking about -- and since my methods are so complex, it really takes a long time to teach someone to use them properly. In essence - you have to start in kindergarten before you can proceed on your way through grade school, high school and college. Since many of you suggested that 1 should use Video tapes to teach a lot more people how to train their dogs - I realized that I could be reaching the entire Shiloh family, right in their own home, without ever having to get on a plane!! So I went out and got over $4,000 worth of video equipment in Dec. ‘87 - and started taping various training sessions - Those first 6 months really didn’t produce much fruitful material because “Zee Bee” kept refusing to train the dogs exactly the way I wanted them done.
The tapes that were
completed, he took when he left in June!! It was time to start all over
again -figured I would teach Eric how to train the dogs exactly the way I
wanted them done and then tape those sessions - Then narrate the final
product. That’s when all the video equipment was stolen!! I had already
received a drawer full of checks from the ad I had in the July newsletter
- and 3 weeks later we had no equipment to work with!! So I waited to see
if the police could do something - then the rains came and winter set in -
but I kept getting calls from so many of you that were anxious to get
these tapes - with the Zee Bee problems that happened here last fall I
really couldn’t afford to replace the equipment that was stolen and of
course I had no insurance on it - So I ended up getting a very cheap small
camera and we tried to work with that - but after I got the footage
needed, I realized I had no way to edit or narrate the tapes. At that
point, I didn’t have thousands of dollars to spend on the equipment needed
to complete this project - so I took it to the Lord in prayer! I had tried
in my own strength to complete this project for 20 months and failed at
each attempt. If these tapes were ever to be completed it would
have to be by divine intervention!! ENTER MY GUARDIAN ANGEL - with a
